Hi, I’m Matt Carmichael. I started MTB’ing because I was looking for a new cycling challenge after a roadie trip to the Alps & Pyrenees in France.
Having ridden mountain bikes for 4 years now, my love for it has grown as I’ve improved. I love the acquisition/ improvement of skills (rather than race results), which lead to the sheer joy of finding the zen of effortless ‘flow’.
Originally, I was a strict XC rider but as my skills have improved I’m now better equipped to tackle a variety of styles.
Prior to the Groover Method, my solution to improving my mountain biking was to increase my fitness, in order to increase my speed - a typical roadie approach!
I was surfing the limits of my control but at a higher speed with greater risk! The biggest challenge about trying to mountain bike better was that I didn’t know what I didn’t know. Trying to improve my technique was like learning using Braille...
