See, your brain’s number one job is to protect you from harm. That is your brain’s most powerful instinct. So, when it can’t THINK of a solution fast enough, it lets your body react with a past habit, like grabbing the brakes, and you literally get addicted to riding that way.
That little thrill you get when you grab the brakes in a hurry is your body’s fight or flight response injecting some adrenaline into your bloodstream to help narrow your focus on the problem and speed up your action to try and save yourself.
Until you can think of a better way, and While your body keeps getting all those little shots of adrenaline and you keep getting drugged on the thrill feeling it gives you, your body won’t want to change its habit and your mountain biking will continue to suffer.
The simplest way to stop all of this carry-on is to prevent yourself from reacting in the first place.
